The keen observer may note that my last blog post was from 2013. I find it better not to dwell on these little details.
I’ve been largely absent from blogging and tweeting and specifically MRX blogging and tweeting in the past couple of years, but 2015 will see me coming back to the social world. I’m looking forward to sharing my thoughts on some of the new developments in market research, qualitative research and also some tips and observations. It’s been far too long 🙂
So what have you been up to?
Late last year, I went to the excellent IIEX APAC conference in Sydney. What a fantastic event, with a great vibe – quite different to other industry conferences. The key thing I think that made the difference was the new and different faces at the conference. Tech companies working near or in the same space as more traditional MRX firms. Innovators – such as Zappistore (if you’ve not heard about Zappistore – check it out, game changer). Big thinkers and innovators in the industry. A great vibe for all.
The key buzzwords from the conference were Automate, Collaborate and Innovate. Automate what you can to make things faster and more affordable. Collaborate where you can – bring in experts (e.g. Tech, Design, Methodology Specialists), and embrace cross-agency collaboration (don’t see it as a threat!). And Innovate – find new and better ways of doing things, don’t keep doing the same thing and expecting a different result.
Agile, Nimble and Fast were also frequently used to describe the direction the industry needs to take. Research needs to move faster, be more flexible and quicker on its feet to survive in this fast paced world.
I keep saying it, but it is such an exciting time to be in this industry. So many changes, so many new players, such a fast changing environment. What is getting you excited for 2015?
